Newfane sweeps to open X-C title defense

Photos by Tom Rivers: Liam Betteridge of Newfane has the lead on Quinn O’Malley of Akron in today’s cross country race in Akron. Betteridge and O’Malley finished 1-2 in the race.

Defending champion Newfane scored a doubleheader sweep of this afternoon’s Niagara-Orleans League season opening cross-country tri-meet at Akron.

In the boys race, Newfane defeated Akron 25-34 and Albion 15-50. Akron also downed Albion 15-50.

Newfane’s Liam Betteridge was the individual winner in a time of 18:44.

In the girls competition, Newfane downed Akron 18-42 and Albion 15-50. Akron also bested Albion 15-50.

Newfane’s Isabella Pasquale was the individual winner in a time of 22:30.

Barker sweeps Wilson
Barker likewise downed Wilson 15-50 in both the boys’ and girls’ races.

The indivdual winners for Barker were Luke Fay and Mikala Woock.

Isabella Pasquale of Newfane got out to an early lead and held off the challengers for the rest of the race over 3.1 miles.
