Newfane man, 32, killed in accident with truck hauling cows in Allegany County

FRIENDSHIP – A Newfane man was killed on Wednesday morning in Allegany County after a collision with a truck hauling cattle, State Police said today.

John Shaw, 32, of Newfane was eastbound driving a 2007 Ford Econoline at about 8:30 a.m. on I-86 eastbound in the town of Friendship. State Police said Shaw went from the driving lane into the passing lane and struck the front bumper of a 2000 Peterbilt tractor trailer hauling 32 cows.

Both vehicles left the roadway striking a ditch then a tree. Shaw was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Nine cows also were killed in the accident.

NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit and NYSP Commercial Reconstruction Unit assisted in this investigation, which is ongoing, State Police said.
