Newfane girls win state Class C X-C title

The Newfane girls cross-country team captured the state Class C cross-country championship held today at Chenango Valley State Park.

The Niagara-Orleans League and Section VI Class C champion Lady Panthers garnered 75 points on the day to claim the state title by 7 points over Canton.

Newfane was led by the trio of Kim Goerss who finished 18th, Nina Burkard 22nd and Vanessa Burkhard 26th.

In the boys Class D race, the Barker duo of Jack Hopkins and Jake Arnold finished 41st and 43 rd respectively.

Girls Soccer
The Newfane girls dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to Chenango Forks in the semifinals of the state Class B soccer championships held today at Cortland.

Chenango Forks scored the game’s lone goal in the opening minute.

N-O champion Newfane advanced to the state semis by blanking Fredonia 3-0 for the Section VI title and then by nipping Palmyra-Macedon 2-1 in the Far West Regional.
