Newfane girls blank Medina; Barker nips Akron to grab N-O field hockey lead

A quick two goal scoring burst late in the first half keyed Newfane to a 2-0 victory over Medina this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League field hockey game at Vets Park.

Leah Good scored both Newfane goals with 8 and 7 minutes to go in the opening half.

Newfane regains the .500 mark at 2-2 while Medina slips to 0-5.

Barker 1, Akron 0

Defending champion Barker took over sole possession of first place by nipping visiting Akron 1-0 in a key N-O battle of unbeatens.

Melissa Grosshans scored the game’s lone goal for the Lady Raiders with 19 minutes to go in the second half off an asset from Erika Moeller.

Caitlyn Mason, who earned the shutout in goal, made a key save late in the game to preserve the win.

Barker improves to 5-0 while Akron slips to 4-1.

Kenmore 2, Roy-Hart 1

Casidhe Heschke netted the lone goal for Roy-Hart (1-5) in the Lady Rams narrow 2-1 loss at Kenmore (2-3).
