Newcomer takes over B2 Div. football lead
In just its second year of varsity football competition WNY Maritime/Health Scienes is off to a strong 3-0 start having rolled past host Iroquois 34-13 Friday in a key clash of unbeatens to take over sole possession of the B2 Division lead.
Maritime is now 2-0 in the division and Iroquois 1-1. Rounding out the division standings Medina/Lyndonville is 1-1, Dunkirk 0-1 and Maryvale 0-1. Dunkirk (2-1 overall) defeated Lake Shore 32-22 in an interdivisional contest Friday and Medina/Lyndonville (1-2) bested host Maryvale (2-1) 26-6.
This coming Friday Medina/Lyndonville will host Dunkirk and Iroquois will visit Maryvale in B2 games while Maritime will visit Canisius Saturday in a non league contest.
Play in the Section V/Section VI 8 man football division got underway on Friday. While Holley has the bye this week, Oakfield-Alabama/Elba romped past Maple Grove 60-12 and Pembroke downed Frewsburg 28-16. Finney will face Dundee today. Holley will host Dundee in the Hawks opener at 7 p.m. Friday under portable lights.
