New leader for the $4K grand prize in the Orleans County Fishing Derby

Day 2 of the Orleans County Fishing Derby resulted in a new leader for the $4,000 grand prize in the derby.

Mike Schaeffer of Sligo, Pa., is now leading the derby with a 26-pound, 14-ounce Chinook salmon.

The derby continues until Aug. 19 and is sponsored by the Albion Rotary Club. There are $8,800 in prizes available in four divisions.

The leaders in each division will win $500. Dane Ballard of Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland leads the salmon with a 26-pound, 3-ounce Chinook.

The top rainbow trout/steelhead is a 12-pounder caught by Dan Heglin of Gardner, Mass.

Brian Gambell of Hilton has the biggest lake trout so far at 17 pounds, 12 ounces.

The derby is waiting for the first entry in the brown trout division.
