New leader for $4K grand prize in OC Fishing Derby

There is a new fish atop the Orleans County Fishing Derby leaderboard after a Maine resident reeled in a nearly 30-pound Chinook salmon on Thursday.

Robert Giggey of Hartland, Maine, caught a 29-pound, 10-ounce Chinook that now leads the derby. The biggest fish gets a $4,000 grand prize.

The derby continues until Aug. 20 with $8,800 in prizes available, including $500 each to the four division winners.

Mike Schaeffer of Sligo, Pa., leads the Chinook division with a 28-pound, 6-ounce salmon.

Eric Diltz of Brockport leads the rainbow trout division with a 12-pound, 2-ounce steelhead.

The derby is still looking for division leaders with brown trout and lake trout.

There is a $200 bonus prize to the Orleans County resident who catches the biggest fish. Joseph Sullivan II of Albion leads with 22-pound, 7-ounce Chinook.
