Brennan Meakin, who guided the JV squad for several years, takes over the helm as the Albion boys varsity basketball team this season.

“I’m excited and really looking forward to the season,” said Meakin, who takes over the varsity helm from Charlie Croff.

Seniors Connor Barleben, Ryan Fannin, Andrew Burroughs, Chris Trevino and Chris Rivers provide varsity experience for the Purple Eagles which are also counting on a promising group of juniors led by Austin Loyd and Des Blackmon. That junior contingent also includes Manny Thompson, Alex Bison, Gary Moore and Clayton Stanton.

“That’s the fuel,” Meakin said of the underclassmen. “We’ve got a lot to prove. It’s a strong league so we need to keep our continuity.”

Albion is slated to visit Elba on Dec. 3 and Burgard on Dec. 4 in non league games before opening the Niagara-Orleans League season at home against Akron on Dec. 13.
