Nationals score two diamond wins
The Niagara Nationals won a pitchers duel his past Friday blanking Nickel City 5-0 at Vets Park in a Boys of Summer League game.
Trevor Luthart pitched the first six innings allowing only 2 hits and striking out 7. Joe Dell’oso came to hurl the seventh inning giving up no hits.
The Nationals scored what proved to be the game winning run in the third inning on an RBI single by Hunter Briggs.
An RBI single by Nathan Sherman and a solo home run by Liam Ward boosted the lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning.
A two-run home run by Dom Cassata, which followed a double by Luthart, capped off the scoring in the fifth frame.
Sherman had a total of 3 hits and Briggs 2.
The Nationals then rallied from as much as a 5-1 deficit to defeat the Buffalo Wings 12-6 at Vets on Sunday.
Trailing 5-2, the Nationals moved on top at 6-5 on a grand slam home run by Sherman in the third inning.
The Nationals big inning also included a soil homer by Ward and RBI singles by Matt Lyskawa and Sam Murphy.
The Nationals later put a lock on the win by scoring three times in the sixth as Chris Goyette, Mitchell Holtz, Briggs and Dell’oso all had singles.
The Nationals also got a solo home run by Brian Fry in the first inning.
Ward, Cassata, Holtz, Briggs and Lyskawa each finished with 2 hits.
Dell’oso pitched the final 4 and 1/3 innings giving up 3 hits and striking out 1.
