Nationals romp in opening twin bill

Anchored by a good nucleus of local players, the Niagara Nationals swept to a doubleheader victory over the WNY Elite by scores of 17-1 and 15-1 today at Vets Park in the Clarence League season opener.

Chris Goyette pitched the first 3 innings in the opener allowing no hits and striking out 4.

Goyette also had 3 hits and 3 RBI as Liam Ward had 2 hits and Nate Sherman 2 RBIs.

Ward pitched the first 3 innings in the second game scattering 3 hits and striking out 3.

Leading 5-1, the Nationals locked up the win by scoring 10 runs in the fifth inning.

The local contingent on the Nationals squad also includes Trevor Luthart, Brian Fry and Joe Dell’Oso.
