Nationals roll on at Lancer Classic

Scoring early and often the Niagara Nationals romped to a 13-1 victory over the Pittsford Panthers Friday in the second round of the Lancer Classic Tournament at Lewiston.

The Nationals took the lead for good in the first inning on RBI singles by Matt Lyskawa and Liam Ward.

Sam Murphy quickly upped the lead to 5-0 by belting a three-run home run in the second inning following a single by Trevor Luthart and a walk to Chris Goyette.

The Nationals made it 8-0 in the third on a two-run single by Luthart and an RBI single by Goyette.

The Nationals capped off the win by scoring five times in the fifth frame highlighted by a grand slam home run by Murphy. A double by Brian Fry and a single by Nate Sherman ignited the uprising.

Mitchell Holtz pitched the first 3 innings allowing 2 hits and Murphy hurled the final 2 frames of the mercy rule contest giving up just 1 hit.

The Nationals next face the Pletcher Blue this afternoon.

The championship round is Sunday.
