The Connecticut Grinders scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip the Niagara Nationals 6-5 this afternoon at the Diamond Nationals Tournament in New Jersey.

The Grinders, which also scored twice in both the third and fourth frames, combined 3 hits and an error to plate the game tying and game winning runs in the seventh which eliminated the Nationals from the tourney.

The Nationals had built up a 5-4 lead by scoring once in the fourth, as Trevor Luthart tripled, and then four times in the fifth on singles by Joe Dell’oso, Liam Ward, Aiden Johnston and a double by David Belsito.

The Nationals, which had only 6 hits, finish at 1-2 in the tourney.
