Nationals gain tournament semifinals
Snapping a 1-1 deadlock, the Niagara Nationals scored 4 runs in the fifth inning to defeat the WNY Elite 5-1 Saturday to improve to 3-0 in the Lancer Classic Tournament at Lewiston.
The fourth seed, the Nationals face Nickel City in the semifinals this morning.
A bases loaded walk to Hunter Briggs followed by RBI singles by Joe Dell’oso, Matt Lyskawa and Brian Fry plated the runs in the decisive fifth frame for the Nationals. A hit batter, an error and a bunt single by Mitchell Holtz loaded the bases to set up the threat.
On the mound, Sam Murphy pitched the first 2 innings giving up 1 hit, Dell’oso the next 3 also allowing only 1 hit and Chris Goyette the final frame.
