Nationals best top Pa. team in tourney opener

The Niagara Nationals U14 team knocked off Pennsylvania’s top entrant, Flood City, 11-8 today in the opening round of the Cap Classic at Pittsburgh.

Trailing 8-2, the Nationals rallied for 6 runs in the sixth inning and 3 more in the seventh to claim the win.

Trevor Luthart, the Nationals third pitcher of the day, shut Flood City out over the last two innings retiring 6 of the 7 batters he faced.

David Belsilo had 4 hits and Aiden Johnston 2 to lead the Nationals offense as Nate Sherman, Joe Dell’oso, Liam Ward, Chris Goyette, Sam Murphy and Mitchell Holtz each chopped in with 1.  Johnston and Dell’oso also shared in the pitching duties.

The Nationals continue tourney play with two games on Friday.
