Nationals advance at Beach Tourney
Improving to 3-0-1 the Niagara Nationals defeated Gothams 7-3 and tied the Tigers 5-5 today in competition at the Sports at the Beach Tournament at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
A two-run first inning home run by Liam Ward ignited the Nationals against Gothams.
David Belsito added a solo homer in the third as the Nationals tacked on 3 more in the fourth on a double by Trevor Luthart and singles by Sam Murphy and Mitchell Holtz to lock up the win.
Belsito, Murphy and Chris Goyette each had a pair of hits.
Murphy, Carson Harper and Aiden Johnston shared the pitching duties allowing 4 hits and striking out 3.
The Nationals then scored twice in the fourth inning to earn the tie with the Tigers as Holtz and Hunter Briggs both had hits.
The Nationals also scored twice in the second as Murhpy singled and Holtz doubled.
On the mound, Johnston and Goyette combined on a 5 hitter with 6 strikeouts.
The Nationals now will be in championship round competition on Sunday.
