Narrow loss for Green in the match play round of 32 at U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship
The final four holes proved disastrous as No. 2 seed Melanie Green dropped a narrow 1 up decision to No. 31 seed Rocio Tejedo today in the match play round of 32 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Green, who was 4 up with 6 holes to go, saw Tejedo cut that advantage in half with birdies on both the 13th and 14th holes.
The match then suddenly became tied as Green had a bogey on No. 15 and a double bogey on No. 17.
Green’s struggles continued on the decisive 18th hole which she bogeyed as Tejedo posted a par to claim the narrow win.
Green had built up an early 3 up lead by winning the 3rd, 5th and 7th holes.
She increased the lead to 4 up by winning the 11th hole and stayed 4 up after 12 but could not hold the big lead over the final 6 holes.
Green had advanced to the round of 32 by scoring sub par rounds of 70 and 69 in the opening two rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday and then posting 4 and 3 win in the match play round of 64 on Wednesday.
