Moving on top to stay with a key fifth inning scoring burst, the Niagara-Orleans League went on to edge the Genesee Region League 8-6 in the senior baseball game this evening at Vets Park.

Trailing 3-1, the N-O took the lead for good by scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run single by Brady Harrington (Newfane) along with RBI singles by Jack Klodzinski (Akron) and Ryan Mettler (Roy-Hart). A single by Xander Payne (Medina) ignited the uprising.

The N-O added one run in the sixth on a fielders choice play off the bat of Hayden Woodroe (Medina) and then what proved to be the deciding two runs in the eighth on a bases loaded walk and an error upping the lead to 8-4. An error and two walks loaded the bases to set up the threat.

The G-R had built up a 3-1 lead by scoring solo runs in the second inning on a double by Cooper Colantonio (Oakfield-Alabama), in the third on a triple by Vinny DiRisio (Notre Dame) and in the fifth on a fielders choice play off the bat of Roman Heinsler (Lyndonville). A single by Jack Whipple (Lyndonville) set up the G-R’s first run.

The G-R did make the finish interesting by rallying for two runs in the top of the ninth on a single by Gage Armbrewster (Oakfield-Alabama), an RBI double by DiRisio and an RBI single by Broek Ostrom (Holley). The G-R then brought the potential tying run to the plate but the N-O got out of the jam on a strikeout and a groundout back to the mound by Zach Fike (Medina) who was one of eight pitchers the N-O used on the evening.

Armbrewster had a total of 3 hits on the evening as DiRisio and Colantonio each had 2. Mettler and Tyler Baes (Newfane) both had a pair of hits for the N-O. Baes’ hits included an RBI single which plated the first N-O run of the evening in the fourth inning.
