N-O runners fare well at sectional meet

Niagara-Orleans League teams and individual runners fared well at the Section VI cross-country championships held at the Knox Farm course in East Aurora today.

In the girls Class C race Newfane took top honors with Akron fourth and Wilson 7th.

The Lady Panthers were led by Kylie Bowman, who placed third, Catalena Ersing 6th, Leah Siegmann 7th and Maggie Quattrini 10th. Akron’s Lauren Wagner placed fifth.

In the girls Class D race, Barker placed third led by 4th place finisher Mikala Woock.

Mason Allee-Castro of Barker (left) finished 4th in the Class D boys race in 17:56 and qualified for the state meet on Nov. 13 at Chenango State Park. Barker’s Mikala Woock also was 4th in the girls Class D race in 21:16 and qualified for the state meet. Will Chubb of Akron (right) was the first Niagara-Orleans runner to cross the finish line in the Class C boys race. He was 7th overall in 17:30 and earned a spot at states.

In the boys Class C race Newfane finished third, Akron fifth and Medina 6th.

Akron’s Will Chubb placed 7th, Medina’s Arian Cayea 8th, Newfane’s brother duo of Andrew and Connor Cuzzacrea 10th and 11th, Roy-Hart’s Jay Heideman 17th and Albion’s Reuben Rivers 20th.

In the boys Class D race Barker finished third led by the 4th place finish of Mason Allee-Castro.

Lauren Wagner of Akron was 5th in the Class C race and qualified for the state meet with a time of 20:23.
