N-O Cross-Country season gets underway

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Runners sprint away at the start of this afternoon’s season opening Niagara-Orleans League cross-country tri meet at Albion. Newfane scored a sweep on the day. The Panthers defeated Albion 15-50 in the boys’ race and 15-49 in the girls’ and Roy-Hart 23-36 in the boys’ and 15-47 in the girls’. Roy-Hart also bested Albion 17-38 in the boys’ race and 18-32 in the girls’.  Roy-Hart’s Calvin Fournier won the boys’ race as Newfane’s Aiden Gillings finished second. Newfane’s Kylie Bowman won the girls’ race as the Lady Panthers had the top six finishers. In other N-O action, Barker swept visiting Medina winning the boys’ race 15-49 and the girls’ 23-32. The Raiders had the top three finishers in both races. Mason Allee-Castro, Noah Sandolfini and Dawson Donovan went 1-2-3 for the boys as did Emma Evans, Mikala Woock and Lydia Samson for the girls. The other meet saw Akron split with Wilson. Akron won the girls’ race 15-50 as individual winner Kaila Szczygielski led the way. Wilson took the boys’ race 22-34 as Jayden Ruble took first place to lead the Lakemen.
