N-O cagers earn All-WNY honors

Photos by Cheryl Wertman Medina’s Jalin Cooper and Newfane’s Paige Emborsky have earned spots on the All-Western New York basketball squads.

Five Niagara-Orleans League seniors have earned spots on the annual All-Western New York basketball squads.

Newfane’s Paige Emborsky has been named to the second team while Medina’s Jalin Cooper, Newfane’s Kyle DeVoogel and Max Weber and Wilson’s Emily Kelly have all earned Honorable Mention.

Emborsky scored 479 points on the season in helping to lead Newfane to the N-O title.  The N-O league’s Player of the Year, she finished her five year varsity career with a total of 1,498 points.

Cooper,  who also earned N-O Player of the Year honors, scored a school record 468 points (21.2 average) and added 209 rebounds, 73 steals and 49 assists. He finished his four year varsity career with a school record total of 1,383 points.

DeVoogel, who scored 453 points (19.6 ave.) and Weber, who tallied 321 points (14.1 ave.) helped to lead Newfane to the N-O title. Weber also had 167 rebounds, 152 assists and 63 steals and DeVoogel 84 rebounds, 81 steals and 34 assists.

Kelly scored 171 points and had 54 rebounds and 27 steals.

The Niagara-Orleans League is also represented on the All-WNY squads by, from left, Newfane’s Kyle DeVoogel and Max Weber and Wilson’s Emily Kelly.
