Mustangs win diamond opener in 8 innings

Medina pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to nip Alden 2-1 in a season opening non league baseball game at Vets Park this afternoon.

A sacrifice fly by Preston Woodworth plated the winning run for the Mustangs. Carter Woodworth was hit by a pitch and Brody Fry singled to give the Mustangs runners at first and third setting up the threat.

Medina took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning on a double by Carter Woodworth but Alden knotted the contest in the top of the seventh on an RBI triple by Kalen Czelusta.

Fry and Preston Woodworth split the pitching duties for the Mustangs allowing just 1 hit and striking out 14.

Medina next hosts Alexander in a non league game at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

In another non league opener Pembroke shutout host Albion 10-0.
