Scoring five quick runs in the first inning, Medina went on to open defense of its Niagara-Orleans League baseball title with a 16-0 win over Barker this afternoon at Vets Park.

Zach Fike pitched the first four innings for the Mustangs allowing one hit and striking out 8.  Aiden Paul came on to hurl the final three frames and likewise allowed just one hit and struck to 7.

An unassisted double play turned in by shortstop Brian Fry in the second inning highlighted the shutout effort by the Medina defense.

Fike also helped himself at the plate by banging out three hits including a home run.

RBI singles by Fike and Corey Saj highlighted the big first inning scoring burst for the Mustangs.

Fike also had a two-run homer in the second inning, Alex Doval and Brian Fry RBI doubles in the third and Austin Mosher a two-run homer in the fourth.

The Mustangs also tacked on two runs in the fifth frame on a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly by Joe Cecchini and three more in the sixth on a two-run single by AJ Seefeldt and an RBI single by Fike.

Shane Gerhardt had both of Barker’s hits with a pair of doubles.

The two teams will meet again Friday afternoon at Barker.
