Mustangs top Panthers to hold N-O lead
Jumping out to a 15 point first quarter lead, Medina went on defeat visiting Newfane 50-36 this evening in a make-up game to remain undefeated in Niagara-Orleans League competition at 8-0 (13-2, overall).
Izaiah Rhim scored a game high 17 points as Nate Sherman and Brian Fry both netted 12 to lead the way for Medina as Vincent Montague added 7 and Tyler Chinn 2.
Josh Everett scored 8, Sam Capen and Connor MacEvoy 7, Garrett Srock 6, Zach Snow 3, Deuce Capen and Jarrett Gillson 2 and Matt DiTullio 1 for Newfane which slips three games off the pace in the N-O title race at 5-3.
The Mustangs took charge at the outset building up a 19-4 first period advantage. Back-to-back baskets by Sherman ignited that uprising which also included a three, a layup and a tip-in by Rhim, a three and a fast break layup by Fry and a layup off a steal by Montague.
Medina maintained a 14 point, 31-17, lead at the half as Rhim hit two threes and Sherman had a pair of baskets in the second quarter.
The Mustangs advantage soared to 20, 37-17, midway through the third period after a layup off a steal by Chinn and a three by Rhim.
Medina maintained a 16 point, 43-27 advantage at the three-quarter mark and Newfane could get no closer than 12 in the final stanza.
Medina next visits Roy-Hart at 7 p.m. Tuesday while Newfane will host Akron at 6:30 p.m.
