Mustangs top Lakemen to grab N-O lead
Taking over sole possession of first place, Medina downed visiting Wilson 70-50 this evening in a key clash of Niagara-Orleans League unbeatens.
The victory keeps the Mustangs perfect at 6-0 in N-O competition (11-1 overall) while the Lakemen slip into the runner-up spot at 5-1.
All five starters scored in double figures for Medina’s balanced attack as Nate Sherman netted 18, Vincent Montague 14, Brian Fry 13 and Tyler Chinn and Izaiah Rhim 10 each.
Jake Miller took game high honors with 20, including 15 in the final period, and Luke Bradley tallied 18 for Wilson.
Leading from wire to wire, Medina jumped out to a 17-10 first period lead as Fry hit three early threes, Izaiah Rhim one and Jarin Rhim a three-point play.
The Mustangs then broke the contest open by putting together a big 19-6 second period scoring surge to move out to s 20 point, 36-16, half-time advantage.
Montague had two threes and a jumper to lead that uprising as Izaiah Rhim and Sherman each had a jumper and a three.
Sherman then had a 8 points and Montague 4 in the third period to keep the Mustangs in command by 22, 54-32, at the three-quarter mark.
In the other N-O games, Newfane (4-2) defeated Albion (3-3) 65-45 as Deuce Capen scored 25 and Josh Everett 11 while Vincent Zona led the Purple Eagles with 16. Roy-Hart (1-5) trimmed Barker (0-6) 50-44 as the Rams used a 22-2 fourth period scoring surge to rally from a 42-28 deficit at the three-quarter mark. Charlie Brigham scored 19 and Mark Sanders 10 for the Rams while Preston Harris and Nichols Brandt each netted 16 for the Raiders..
