Snapping a four game losing streak, Medina/Lyndonville/Barker won a 28-22 see-saw battle over Burgard in the semifinals of the Class B Chuck Funke Memorial Bowl this evening at Riverside High in Buffalo.

Senior quarterback/defensive back Izaiah Rhim accounted for all four touchdowns for the Mustangs which will take a 4-4 record into next Thursday’s B Bowl final against the winner of Saturday’s Iroquois vs. Newfane game.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a 1 yard touchdown run by Rhim and the first of four extra point kicks by Matt Hess.

Burgard though rebounded into a 14-7 lead at the end of the opening quarter after scoring on a 67 yard kickoff return and a 6 yard pass play.

However, the Mustangs answered back with a pair of second quarter touchdowns by Rhim on a 25 yard interception return and a 13 yard run to regain a 21-14 lead at the half.

The Bulldogs scored the lone touchdown of the third quarter to regain what proved to be their last lead at 22-21.

The Mustangs regained the lead for good as Rhim scored what proved to be the game winning touchdown on a 2 yard run with 7 minutes to go in the final period. It was the 10th rushing TD of the season for Rhim who has now accounted for 21 of the Mustangs 25 touchdowns this season (10 rushing, 10 passing and 1 interception return).

The defense then preserved the win on a huge recovery of a Burgard fumble by Tyler Chinn at the Mustangs 7 yard line with 3 minutes to go.
