Mustangs to open busy sectional playoff week

Postseason high school basketball competition will begin a busy week when No. 17 seed Medina (4-16) visits No. 16 Southwestern (9-11) in the Section VI boys Class B2 opener at noon on Monday. The winner will visit No. 9 Roy-Hart (13-7) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Seeded No. 8 the Medina girls (6-13) will host No. 9 Allegany-Limestone (4-16) in a Class B2 contest at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will visit top seeded Eden (17-3) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Also on Tuesday, in Class B1, the No. 10 seed Albion girls (6-10) will visit No. 7 Iroquois (10-10). In Class B2 No. 12 Roy-Hart (3-14) travels to No. 5 Health Sciences (12-6) and No. 6 Newfane (9-9) hosts No. 11 Salamanca (7=13) and in Class D No. 8 Barker (5-14) entertains No. 9 Maple Grove (6-13), all at 7 p.m.

Section VI boys games on Tuesday will also have No. 15 Akron (11-9) at No. 10 Fredonia (13-7) in Class B2 at 7 p.m. while on Wednesday No. 10 Barker (6-13) will visit No. 7 Pine Valley (5-15) at 7 p.m. in a Class D contest.

The Albion boys will open Class B1 competition at home at 7 p.m. Thursday against the winner of Tuesday’s contest between No. 9 City Honors (7-13) and No. 16 Tonawanda (1-18).

Wilson will host a girls and boys Class C doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m.

The Niagara-Orleans League boys champion Newfane is seeded No. 3 in Class B2 and has drawn a bye into Saturday’s quarterfinal round.

Section V Boys Playoffs
On Tuesday, No. 12 Holley will travel to No. 5 Northstar in Class C1 and No. 9 Kendall visits No. 8 Alexander in Class C2 both at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, No. 10 Lyndonville visits No. 7 Arkport-Canaseraga at 7 p.m.

Section V Girls Playoffs
On Wednesday, No. 13 Holley travels to No. 4 Geneseo in Class C1 and No. 10 Kendall visits No. 7 York in Class C2 both at 7 p.m.

On Friday in Class D1, No. 3 Lyndonville will host the winner of the opening round game between No. 11 Naples and No. 6 South Seneca at 7 p.m.
