Albion heads back to Dunkirk to open playoffs

Medina/Lyndonville will face a familiar foe as the Mustangs host Alden in the semifinal round of the Section VI Class B Chuck Funke Memorial Consolation Bowl at 6 p.m. Thursday at Vets Park.

The Mustangs downed the Bulldogs 58-34 in a B-3 Division game two weeks ago at Alden.

Medina/Lyndonville brings 4-3 record into postseason play while Alden is 2-5.

The other semifinal will have Burgard at Olean.

The winners are scheduled to meet in the finals on October 26 at Pioneer.

In a match-up game on Wednesday, Roy-Hart/Barker will host East Aurora/Holland at 6 p.m. at Middleport.

Section VI Class B playoff competition gets underway on Friday with No. 6 Albion at No. 3 Dunkirk, No. 5 Newfane at No. 4 Maryvale, No. 8 Pioneer at No. 1 Lackawanna and No. 7 Depew at No. 2 Cheektowaga in the quarterfinals.

The Albion-Dunkirk game is also a repeat contest as the Purple Eagles dropped a narrow 18-15 decision to the Marauders two weeks ago at Dunkirk in a key clash of unbeatens for the B-2 Division title.
