Mustangs tip Hornets with last inning tally; Purple Eagles post win over Panthers

Pushing across a run in the bottom of the seventh inning without the benefit of a hit earned Medina a narrow 7-6 win over Oakfield-Alabama in a non league game this afternoon at wind swept Vets Park.

Breaking away from a 6-6 deadlock, Medina scored the game winner when Owen Frasier reached on a walk with two outs and came around to score on a pair of passed balls.

The Mustangs also got off to a fast start erupting for five quick runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Brett Riemer and Alex Allis, a two-run fielders choice play off the bat of Trevor Luthart and a double steal play.

Riemer also had another RBI single in the second inning which upped the Medina lead to 6-0.

However, Oakfield-Alabama got back in the game by scoring four times in the sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run double by Grazioplene, to cut the deficit to 6-5.

The Hornets then pulled into a brief 6-6 tie by scoring once in the top of the seventh on four straight walks.

Chris Goyette pitched the first 5 innings for the Mustangs allowing only 3 hits and striking out 11 including the first 7 batters he faced.

Medina next hosts Newfane at 7 p.m. Wednesday in a Niagara-Orleans League game.

Albion 6, Newfane 2
Scoring five times in the first two innings, Albion went on to defeat host Newfane 6-2 to go to 2-0 in Niagara-Orleans League competition.

Albion scored two quick runs in the first inning on a pair of walks, a single by Bryce Pritchard and two passed balls.

The Purple Eagles then tacked on three runs in the second inning as Liam Ward had an RBI single.

Vincent Zona pitched the first four innings to earn the win allowing 2 hits and striking out 3.. Ward came on to hurl the final three frames allowing no hits and striking out 2.

Albion next hosts Roy-Hart at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.
