Mustangs tie again, Purple Eagles earn first win

It has literally been a week when Medina/Lyndonvile was fit to be tied in Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer action.

On Tuesday, Medina/Lyndonville settled for a 3-3 overtime tie against Roy-Hart after seeing a two goal second half lead disappear. Then this afternoon the Mustangs played to a 1-1 overtime tie against Newfane at Vets Park.

Medina/Lyndonville grabbed a 1-0 lead midway through the first half as Steven Anderson scored off an assist from James Ianni. However, the Mustangs could not find the net again as Newfane made a goal by Patrick Eadie 14 minutes into the second half stand up for the 1-1 tie.

Goalie Adam Hoot came up with several key saves for Medina/Lyndonville.

Medina/Lyndonville is now 3-2-2 and Newfane 5-1-1.

Albion 2, CSAT 1
Snapping a season opening five league game losing streak, Albion came from behind to defeat host CSAT 2-1 this afternoon.

Albion pulled even on a goal by Marcos Sanchez in the first half and then netted the game winner with just 9:17 to go in the second half on a tally by Nich Reed off an assist form Dakota Henhawk.

“It was huge for us to get that first win,” Albion coach Greg Martillotta said. “Our defense played really well.”

Girls Soccer

Newfane 5, Medina 0
Savannah Jonathan scored three goals and Kaylee Heschke two to lead Newfane (5-2-1) to a 5-0 N-O victory over visiting Medina (2-6) this afternoon. The Lady Panthers led 3-0 at the half.

Wilson 8, Barker 0
Two goals by Holly Rudolph led a parade of seven scorers for front-running Wilson (7-0-1) in the 8-0 victory over visiting Barker (0-8).

Golf

Medina 247, Albion 251
Medina (5-7-1) edged past Albion (4-8) 247-251 this afternoon at Shelridge in a N-O match.

Gage Masters took medalist honors with a 39 and Michael Cardone had a 46 to lead Medina.

Connor Barleben shot 42 and John Krieger 47 for Albion.

Volleyball

Wilson 22-25-25-25, Newfane 25-6-11-13
Wilson (6-2) rallied past rival Newfane (3-4) 22-25, 25-6, 25-11, 25-13 this evening in a N-O volleyball match.

Ally Bubar had 11 kills and 20 digs, Alicia Schlosser 19 digs and Emily Lasher 18 assists to lead Wilson as Mercedees Rees served up 12 straight points in the third set.

Clare Puff had 12 digs for Newfane.
