For the second day in a row a dominating pitching performance has highlighted a Medina Niagara-Orleans League victory over Akron this time by a 15-0 score at Vets Park this evening.
Junior Aidan Papaj hurled a sparkling no hitter with 15 strikeouts and only 1 walk in the five inning run rule contest.
Papaj, Vinny Gray and Preston Woodworth each banged out a pair of hits to highlight the Mustangs offense.
Medina took control at the outset exploding for five runs in the first inning on an RBI triple by Papaj, an RBI single by Kolton Fletcher, an error, a wild pitch and a steal of home.
The Mustangs tacked on a solo run in the second inning as Gray tripled and came home on a sacrifice fly by Papaj.
Medina broke the game wide open with a six run scoring surge in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Gray, three bases loaded walks and a ground out.
The Mustangs capped off the win with three tallies in the fifth inning on a two-run double by Papaj and a hit batter.
Papaj’s gem followed up the no hit, 16 strikeout effort by Woodworth on Monday in a six inning 10-0 run rule win over Akron.
Now at 2-0 in the league, defending champion Medina will next visit rival Albion at 4:45 p.m. Friday.
