Mustangs blank Panthers to go to 10-0 overall

Preston Woodworth hurled four and two-thirds innings of no hit ball for the Mustangs with 11 strikeouts.
Improving to 5-0 in the league and 10-0 overall, Medina blanked Newfane 9-0 in a Niagara-Orleans baseball game at Vets Park this afternoon.
Preston Woodworth picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs as he allowed no hits and struck out11 in four and two-thirds innings of work.
Defending N-O champion Medina took the lead for good by scoring three quick runs in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Preston Woodworth, a balk and an RBI single by Carter Woodworth. Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases to set up the threat.
The Mustangs doubled the advantage to 6-0 in the second inning on a two-run single by Preston Woodworth and an RBI single by Brody Fry. A single by Tyler Kroening and a sacrifice bunt by Vinny Gray set up the opportunity.
Medina tacked on a solo run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Gray after a walk, a hit batter and a single by Kroening had loaded the bases.
The Mustangs final two runs came in the fourth frame on RBI singles by Ryleigh Culver and Ryan Pegelow.
Medina, which interestingly is ranked No. 1 in the state in Class B according to the season’s first rankings by the New York State Sportswriters Association, will next visit Lockport at noon on Saturday for a non league contest.
The Mustangs, which have not allowed a run in five league games, will then return to N-O action on Monday with a game at Newfane at 4:45 p.m.
