Rams late rally nips Panthers

Scoring in each of the first six innings, Medina rolled to an 11-0 victory over Wilson at Vets Park this afternoon to stay unbeaten at 5-0 in Niagara-Orleans League baseball competition.

Quentin Adkins went the distance on the mound for Medina allowing only 3 hits and striking out 10.

Jason Hellwig had 3 hits and Justin Morgan 2 to lead the Mustangs at the plate.

Medina took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a fielders choice play off the bat of Matt Riemer.

The Mustangs quickly upped the advantage to 3-0 in the second inning on a two-run single by Hellwig. A single by Morgan and two walks loaded the bases to set up the threat.

Medina tacked on two more runs in the third on an error and an RBI single by Morgan to up the lead to 5-0. A double by Riemer ignited that scoring spurt.

Kyle Herman followed up with a two-run single in fourth inning and Hellwig had an RBI single in the fifth to make it 8-0.

The Mustangs capped off the win by scoring three times in the sixth as Brad McPherson banged out a two-run double and Morgan an RBI single.

The Mustangs defense also came up big as Hellwig at shortstop made a nifty diving stop in the second inning and Morgan at second base started a double play in the seventh.

The loss drops Wilson to 6-0.

Medina is now scheduled to finish a suspended game against Roy-Hart at 3 p.m. Saturday. The Mustangs built up a 7-1 lead in the third inning before a combination of rain and snow halted play on Wednesday.

Rams nip Panthers
Roy-Hart pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip visiting Newfane 9-8 and regain the .500 mark at 3-3 in N-O action.

Justin Heschke doubled in the tying and winning runs for the Rams in the seventh after two walks and a single by Andy Xapsos had loaded the bases.

Heschke and Al Xapsos both had 3 hits on the day and Josh Baptiste 2 including a double.

Aaron Metz picked up the winin relief as he allowed 4 hits and struck out 3 over the final three innigns.

Zac LaJoie and Ryan Gmerek both had 2 hits for Newfane which slips to 4-2.
