Mustangs romp to win over Wolverines

Jumping out to a 12-0 lead at the outset, Medina went on down visiting Buffalo Science 81-56 this evening in a non league boys basketball game.

Jalin Cooper and Johnny Salone both scored 21, Mason Lewis 16 and Izaiah Rhim 11 to lead the attack for Medina as Vincent Montague added 6, Brendan Luthard 3, Tyrellis Atkins 2 and Trenton Jones 1.

Julian Johnson scored 16 and Ibrahim Osmant 14 for the visiting Wolverines.

A slam dunk off a turnover by Salone highlighted Medina’s 12-0 burst at the outset which also included two baskets by Cooper and one each by Rhim and Atkins.

A dunk by Cooper, who had a total of 10 points in the opening stanza, and a three by Lewis kept the Mustangs up by a dozen, 24-12, at the end of the period.

Medina then broke the contest wide open by erupting for an 18-0 run during a six minute stretch of the second quarter. Cooper and Salone both tallied 6 points and Lewis, Rhim and Montague 2 each during that stretch as the Mustangs opened up a 42-14 lead.

A late seven point run by Lewis, including a three, helped up the Medina advantage to 30, 49-19, at the half.

The Mustangs led by as much as 32, 59-27, midway through the third period and by 23, 65-42, at the three-quarter mark.

Improving to 11-4 overall, Medina next hosts Roy-Hart in a Niagara-Orleans League game on Friday. The Mustangs currently are undefeated 7-0 in N-O action and a game ahead of 6-1 Newfane.
