Mustangs romp to victory over Steelers

Roaring out to a commanding 26 point first quarter lead, Medina/Lyndonville went on to romp past host Lackawanna 48-6 this evening in a B East Division game.

Izaiah Rhim threw a 25 yard touchdown pass to Jake Cotter and Jalin Cooper added the two-point conversion in the opening two minutes and the Mustangs were off and rolling.

The Mustangs defensive unit provided the next two scores as Ronnie Koonce scored on a 95 yard fumble recovery return and Powell Stephens tallied on a safety when he tackled a Steelers ball carrier in the end zone. Dawson Joy forced the fumble setting up Koonce’s long scoring returns Rhim added the two-point conversion pass to Eric Neace.

Rhim then scored on a 25 yard run and Neace added the two point conversion carry to up the Mustangs advantage to 26-0 at the end of the opening quarter.

Cooper scored on a 61 yard run on a sweep in the second quarter and Rhim completed the two-point conversion pass to Neace upping the advantage to 34-0 at the half.

The Mustangs other two touchdowns came in the fourth quarter on a 22 yard run by Cooper and a 50 yard interception return by Lucas Porter as Dustin Joy tacked on the two-point conversion run. Porter had two interceptions on the night.

Dawson Joy led the Mustangs defense with 8 tackles and a fumble recovery as Johnny Salone made 7 tackles.

Medina/Lyndonville, which next hosts defending champion Alden next Friday night, improves to 2-0 in the division while Lackawanna slips to 0-2 . Alden improved to 2-0 with a 28-18 win at Albion.
