Mustangs romp to key victory over Bulldogs to claim a share of the C North Division lead

Facing a must win situation, Medina rose to the occasion by romping to a 44-7 victory over previously unbeaten Alden at Vets Park this evening vaulting the four-time defending champion Mustangs into a share of the C North Division lead.
The Mustangs improve to 5-1 in the division while the Bulldogs slip to 4-1 (5-1 overall).
Newfane likewise improved to 4-1 with a 49-0 romp over Tonawanda (0-6) and Cleveland Hill also improved to 4-1 with a 26-20 win over Akron to make it a virtual four-way deadlock for the C North lead.
Medina broke this one open early scoring on all six first half possessions to race away to a commanding 37-0 lead at the break.
Jayzon Wills broke loose for long touchdown runs of 39 and 85 yards and Cole Callard tacked on an extra point kick to give Medina a 13-0 first quarter lead.
Christian Moss then had three touchdown runs in the second quarter on carries of 10, 11 and 25 yards and Callard booted a 38 yard field goal and three more extra points ballooning the Mustangs advantage to 37-0 at the half.
The Mustangs defensive unit set up the final two scores of the half as Frankie Stephens had a fumble recovery and Brody Fry an interception.
The Medina defensive unit also accounted for the Mustangs lone score of the second half as Kolton Fletcher returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown early in the third quarter.
Alden averted the shutout when quarterback Nick Wypij scored on a 14 yard run with 3 minutes to go in the final quarter.
Medina will close out its C North Division schedule at Maritime next Saturday at 2 p.m. The Mustangs final regular season game will then be an interdivisional contest at rival Albion on October 25.
