Mustangs romp in diamond opener

Pounding out 23  hits, including 14 of the extra base variety, Medina romped to a 31-4 win over Central Christian Academy in a non league season opening baseball game at Vets Park this afternoon.

The Mustangs attack included five hits by Brian Fry (including a home run and 2 doubles);  four by AJ Seefeldt (3 doubles); three by Trevor Luthart (double, triple), Austin Mosher (2 doubles) and Joe Cecchini (home run); two by Chris Goyette (double) and Nate Sherman (triple) and one by Matt Saj (double)..

Goyette also picked up the win on the mound allowing 2 hits and striking out 10 over the first four innings.

After picking up two runs on errors in the first inning and two more in the second on a double steal and an error, Medina got RBI doubles from Luthart and Mosher in the third to make it 6-0. Another double steal play and an RBI single by Goyete in the fourth made it 8-2.

A three-run homer by Cecchini then highlighted a five run fifth frame which made it 13-2.

The Mustangs then exploded for 18 runs in a marathon sixth frame including a two-run homer and two RBI singles by Fry, two-run triples by Luthart and Sherman, a two-run double by Matt Saj and RBI doubles by Seefeldt, Mosher and Goyette.

Medina next hosts a tournament on Saturday. The Mustangs will face Holley at 9 a.m. followed by Pembroke vs. Oakfield-Alabama. The consolation and championship games are slated for the afternoon.
