Mustangs roll to Homecoming victory
Snapping a two game losing streak, Medina/Lyndonville celebrated Homecoming by scoring a 40-14 victory over Roy-Hart/Barker in a B-3 Division game this evening at Vets Park.
Quarterback Izaiah Rhim ran for two touchdowns and passed to Brian Fry for another and wide receiver Jalin Cooper ran for one touchdown and returned a kickoff for another to spark Medina/Lyndonville which improves to 2-2 in the division and 3-2 overall.
Malik Smith ran for one touchdown and quarterback Charlie Bruning passed to Aaron Curry for another for Roy-Hart/Barker which slips to 1-2, 1-4.
Roy-Hart/Barker did jump out to an early 8-0 lead on a 14 yard touchdown run and two-point conversion carry by Smith.
However, Medina/Lyndonville pulled even before the end of the opening quarter on a five-yard Rhim to Fry touchdown pass and a two-point conversion carry by Rhim.
The Mustangs then moved on top to stay with a pair of unanswered second quarter touchdowns to open up a 24-8 half-time advantage.
First Cooper scored on a 42 yard run and then Rhim tallied on a 24 yard carry. The two-point conversions came on carries by Rhim and William Braswell.
Roy-Hart/Barker did cut the deficit to 24-14 with 9:10 to go in the fourth quarter on a 21 yard Bruning to Curry TD pass but could get no closer.
The Mustangs got that one right back with interest as Cooper returned the ensuing kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown and Rhim added the two-point conversion to make it 32-14.
Medina/Lyndonville then capped off the win with a 65 yard touchdown run by Rhim with 5:47 remaining.
Fumble recoveries by Elijah Sones and Abi Cruz-Robb and a forced fumble by Jorge Phillips highlighted the efforts by the Mustangs defensive unit whose leading tackler was Mason Lewis with 18.
