Purple Eagles, Rams, Panthers score wins

Leading from wire to wire, Medina rolled to a 63-33 victory over visiting Wilson this evening to stay unbeaten at 4-0 in Niagara-Orleans League boys basketball competition.

In the other N-O games, Albion defeated Barker 64-47, Roy-Hart downed Akron 52-38 and Newfane bested CSAT 65-50.

Jalin Cooper scored a game high 24 points for Medina as Mason Lewis added 9, Daryl Haynes and Tyler Ames 6 and Justin Morgan, Johnny Salone and Jared Zinkievich 5 each.

Alex Fox scored 12 and Ryan Bradley 9 to lead Wilson.

Medina jumped out to an 11-5 first period lead ignited by a 3 and a layup off a turnover by Cooper and a rebound bucket by Ames.

The Mustangs quickly extended the lead to 14, 19-5, at the outset of the second quarter after a layup by Ames followed by back-to-back threes by Cooper and Lewis.

Wilson did answer with a 10-0 run, including 7 by Fox, to slice the deficit to just 4 at 19-15 but the Lakemen would get no closer.

Medina, which used a harassing defense to key the offense, answered the challenge with an 8-2 run to close the period and regain a 10 point, 27-17, advantage at the half. Cooper had a jumper and a three-point play and Morgan a three during that run.

Keeping the momentum, the Mustangs extended the lead to 20, 37-17, early in the third period on a dunk and a rebound bucket by Cooper, along with threes by Haynes and Lewis.

Medina maintained a commanding 26 point, 48-22, advantage at the three-quarter mark.

Albion 64, Barker 47
Jumping out to a 19-7 first period advantage, Albion went on to defeat visiting Barker 64-47.

Tommy Mattison scored 7 of his 14 points, Manwell Taylor 6 of his 10 and Kory Reynolds 4 of his 12 to lead the Purple Eagles early surge.

Albion went on to hold leads of 34-23 at the half and 49-32 at the three-quarter mark.

Mattison scored 5 and Chase Hall 4 in the second period while Brady Meakin hit two threes and Reynolds added 4 points in the third.

Hall finished with 7 points, Meakin 6, Evan Pappalardo 4, Jacob Buzard 3 and Tyler Rotoli, Scott Daniels and Lamar Chambers 2.

Nathan Luckman scored 15 and Eddie Wasnock 14 to pace Barker as Kyle Secore added 7, Jake Arnold and Michael Snell 4, Devon Mangan 2 and Shawn Callaghan 1.

Roy-Hart 52, Akron 38
Ben Maynard scord 18, Chris Anderson 12 and Andy Xapsos 10 to spark Roy-Hart to the 52-38 win over Akron.

Maynard scored 8 quick points in the opening quarter as Roy-Hart went on to build up a 30-17 half-time advantage.

Anderson later tallied 6 in the final stanza to help lock up the Rams win.

Newfane 65, CSAT 50
Newfane roared out to leads of 20-5 after one quarter and 40-7 at the half in route to posting a 65-50 win over CSAT.

Chad Gilson scored 16, Max Weber 13, Zach Lajoie 9 and Kyle DeVoogel 8 to spark the Panthers attack.
