Mustangs roll in diamond tuneup contest
Tuning up for Thursday’s Niagara-Orleans League opener, Medina blanked host Livonia 10-0 this afternoon in a season opening non league baseball game.
Zach Fike and Xander Payne combined to hurl a no hitter in the five inning run rule contest. Fike struck our 3 in two and one-third innings of work and Payne fanned five in two and two-thirds innings.
Medina jumped out to a quick 3-0 first inning lead on RBI hits by Fike, Payne and Cecchini
The Mustangs then broke the contest open with a big seven run second inning highlighted by a two-run double by Austin Mosher.
Fike finished with a total of three hits as Cecchini and Alex Doval each had two.
Medina will open defense of its N-O title by hosting Barker at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at Vets Park.
