Bolstered by the return of the starting five intact, Medina is taking aim at challenging for top honors in the Niagara-Orleans League girls basketball title race this season.

A trio of senior three year starters including Molley Gross, Emily Kams and Maddie Winters head that veteran quintet which also includes sophomores Je’ne Brown and Maddie Williams. The Mustangs other returning senior is Kayla Cuadra.

Brown earned second team N-O All-League honors last year while Gross and Winters both received Honorable Mention. Brown led the Mustangs in both scoring with 261 points (13.0 average) and rebounds with 193. Gross had 169 points and 156 rebounds and Winters 102 points and 167 rebounds.

“We’ve got the experience and we have high expectations for this season,” said Coach Ken Haak. “We’ve got a really solid group of experienced players but we’re not real deep so we have to stay out of foul trouble. If we can start the season strong we can build momentum from that.”

The Mustangs will open the season by taking part in the Kendall Tournament on December 1 and 3 and will begin N-O competition at home on December 16 against Albion.

Medina went 7-7 in the league and 11-10 overall last season.
