Mustangs rebound with victory at Cleve Hill
Getting back onto the winning track, Medina posted a 28-6 victory over host Cleveland Hill in a C North Division football game this afternoon.
Medina grabbed a 7-0 lead late in the second quarter on a two-yard touchdown run by quarterback Preston Woodworth and an extra point kick by Cole Callard. A 35 yard run by Christian Moss down to the Cleve Hill 2 set up the opportunity.
The Mustangs then broke the game open with a quick two touchdown burst early in the third quarter.
First, Moss scored on a 4 yard touchdown run and Callard added the extra point to make it 14-0. Moss had a big 41 yard run down to the 4 to key the drive. He also set up the possession by registering a sack for a 15 yard Cleve Hill loss on a fourth down snap by the Eagles.
The Mustangs then got the ball right back as Kolton Fletcher recovered the ensuing onside kickoff and the offense quickly capitalized on a 42 yard touchdown pass from Preston Woodworth to Jerrell Nealy. Callard’s extra point kick made it 21-0.
The Mustangs made it 28-0 midway through the final quarter on a 9 yard touchdown run by Moss and an extra point kick by Callard. Fletcher had a 16 yard run to highlight the drive.
The Medina defense also came up big in the first quarter as Nealy recovered a Cleve Hill fumble in the Mustangs endzone.
Cleve Hill’s touchdown was scored by quarterback London Thomas late in the final quarter.
Medina, which was rebounding from a 23-6 home field loss to Newfane, improves to 2-1 in the division while Cleve Hill slips to 1-1 in the division and 1-2 overall.
The Mustangs will next host Tonawanda for Homecoming at 7 p.m. Friday. Tonawanda forfeited to Alden Friday due to an insufficient number of healthy and eligible players.
