Mustangs, Rams romp in B2 openers

Photos by Cheryl Wertman – Aidan Paul hurled a no hitter as Medina romped to a five inning run rule victory over visiting JFK this afternoon at Vets Park to open the Class B2 sectional playoffs.

Exploding for nine runs in the first inning, defending champion No. 6 seed Medina went on to defeat No. 11 JFK 15-0 at Vets Park this afternoon in the opening round of the Section VI Class B2 playoffs.

Joe Cecchini belted a home run to highlight the Mustangs win.

No. 5 seed Roy-Hart likewise romped to a Class B2 opening round victory as the Rams blanked visiting No. 12 Cleveland Hill 11-0.

Consecutive inning opening doubles by Xander Payne, Joe Cecchini, Zach Fike and winning pitcher Aidan Paul ignited Medina’s decisive first inning uprising which also included a two-run single by Tyler Kroening and a double by Julian Woodworth.

A two-run home run by Cecchini later highlighted a five run third inning which also included an RBI double by Payne and an RBI single by Kroening.

On the mound, Paul hurled a no hitter with 11 strikeouts in the five inning run rule contest.

Medina next visits No. 3 seed Eden in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Roy-Hart 11, Cleve Hill 0
Brayden Hy and Dawson Draper combined to hurl a 1 hit shutout with a total of 10 strikeouts for Roy-Hart in the five inning run rule contest.

The Rams broke the game wide open with a huge eight run third inning uprising which included hits by Jay Heideman, Jake Gould and Hy.

Thomas Russo, Ryan Mettler and Heideman also all banged out triples on the day for Roy-Hart which next visits No. 4 Fredonia in the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

In another B2 contest, No. 8 Akron defeated No. 9 Newfane 7-3 to advance to a quarterfinal game at No. 1 Alden on Tuesday.
