Mustangs rally past Lady Panthers
Putting together a big late inning scoring burst Medina rallied to edge past Newfane 8-6 this afternoon in a Niagara-Orleans League softball game at Vets Park.
Trailing 6-3, Medina exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to claim the win on RBI singles by Alisha Scroger and Courtney Bailey, a pair of fielders choice plays and an RBI double by Ryenn Oliver. Singles by Destiny Satkowski and winning pitcher Emily Kams set up the threat.
The Mustangs other three runs came on solo tallies in the first inning on a double by Scroger, the fourth on a single by Allison Bensley and the fifth on a single by Brandi Guild.
Newfane broke away from a 2-2 deadlock by scoring three times in the fifth on a fielders choice play off the bat of Katie Kneeland, an error and an RBI single by Teagan Volpe. An error, a bunt single by Cassidy Geise and a single by Olivia Littman loaded the bases to set up the opportunity.
The Lady Panthers maintained a 6-3 lead by scoring once in the top of the sixth but the Mustangs answered right back with the decisive five run uprising in the home half of the frame.
Satkowski, Scroger, Bensley and Oliver each had two hits on the day for Medina as did Geise, Volpe and Caitlin Chunco for Newfane.
In the circle, Kams registered 7 strikeouts.
Medina is now 2-0 and Newfane 1-1 in N-O action.
