Mustangs rally late to down Lakemen
Trailing 3-1, Medina exploded for a big nine run sixth inning rally to key a 13-3 victory over host Wilson this afternoon in the Niagara-Orleans League season finale.
Matt Riemer had a two-run single and Devonte Howard and Jason Hellwig both added RBI singles to highlight the decisive sixth inning uprising for Medina.
A lead-off single by Riemer and two walks loaded the bases to set up the big inning which was also aided by three Wilson errors.
The Mustangs then capped off the victory by scoring three runs in the seventh capped off by a two-run single by Justin Morgan.
Riemer and Morgan both had two hits in the contest.
The Mustangs finish the N-O campaign at 10-4 while Wilson winds up at 1-13.
Barker 5, Newfane 2
Breaking away from a 2-2 deadlock, Barker scored three times in the sixth inning to top Newfane 5-2.
Tanner Gregoire and Tim Flint both had key hits in the decisive rally. Gregoire and Doug Bachman both had key hits during the Raiders two-run fifth inning.
Josh Kneeland hit a two-run home run for Newfane.
Brad Wilson picked up the win on the mound for the Raiders allowing three hits and striking out six.
Kneeland hurled a six hitter with 12 strikeouts for Newfane.
Barker finishes the N-O season at 4-10 while Newfane is now 5-8 with one game to play.
Softball
Newfane 9, Medina 3
Katie Kneeland and Sam Ferington each had two hits, including a triple, to lead Newfane past Medina in an N-O make-up game.
Newfane finishes the N-O season at 7-7 and Medina at 2-12.
Roy-Hart 8, Barker 3
Roy-Hart scored an 8-3 victory over host Barker in the completion of a suspended game to earn a share of the N-O championship at 12-2 with Akron.
Kayla Brown, Ashley Bower and Rachel Rausch each had two hits for Roy-Hart which scored three times in the fourth inning to snap a 1-1 deadlock.
Taylor Fry picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Rams allowing four hits and striking out four.
