A big second half rally came up short as Medina/Lyndonville dropped a 4-3 decision to defending champion Newfane in a Niagara-Orleans League boys soccer game this afternoon at Vets Park.

Trailing 3-0 at the half, Medina/Lyndonville battled back to within 3-2 midway through the second half after a pair of goals by Kristian Snyder. The first goal came on a corner off an assist from Ethan Leonard and the second on a penalty kick.

Newfane regained a 4-2 lead on a goal by Mateo May but the Mustangs again cut the deficit to one on another penalty kick goal by Snyder with 6 minutes remaining.

However, the Mustangs were unable to net the equalizer.

Newfane built up the 3-0 advantage on first half goals by Johnney Costanzo, Jarrett Gilson and Trevor Moreland.

May and Max Weber also both had a pair of assists on the day for the Panthers.

Newfane is now 3-0 and Medina/Lyndonville 1-1 in N-O competition,
