Mustangs quartet heads N-O All-League diamond team

Four players from champion Medina head the first team of the annual Niagara-Orleans All-League baseball squad.
Medina, which captured the N-O crown for the first time since 1995 with a 12-2 record, is represented by the senior quartet of pitcher Jason Hellwig, first baseman Matt Riemer, outfielder Brennan Zinkievich and utility man Kyle Herman.
Akron is represented by the senior trip of outfielder Steven Borowczyk, infielder Connor Riggs and utility man Zach Pfentner.

Newfane has placed the battery of junior pitcher Will Newton and senior catcher Nick O’Lay.
Rounding out the first team are Roy-Hart junior infielder Andy Xapsos, Albion junior infielder Brady Meakin and CSAT senior outfielder Nate Lambert.
Riemer, Lambert, Pfentner and Xapsos are all repeat selections while Riggs was a second team honoree last year.
Hellwig posted a 7-0 record on the mound in N-O action with 63 strikeouts and a 0.76 era. At the plate, he hit .311 with 12 RBIs and 12 stolen bases.
Riemer hit .395 with 5 doubles and 13 RBIs. On the mound, he was 4-1 with 36 strikeouts and a1.95 era in league action.
Zinkievich hit .316 with 2 doubles and 2 triples.
Herman hit a team leading .478 with 3 doubles and 16 RBIs.

Borowczyk hit .415 with 12 RBIs, Riggs .467 and Pfentner .400 for the Tigers.
Newton went 3-1 on the mound with 48 strikeouts and a 1.66 era. At the plate he hit .317 with 3 doubles and 7 RBIs. O’Lay hit .286 with 3 doubles and 9 RBIs.
Xapsos hit .318 with 12 RBIs, Lambert .388 with 17 RBIs and Meakin .435 with 6 doubles.
