Mustangs, Purple Eagles win N-O League tennis openers

Medina and Albion both opened the Niagara-Orleans League tennis season this afternoon with home court victories.

Defending champion Medina blanked Roy-Hart 5.5-0 and Albion bested Wilson 3.5-2.

In one other N-O match, Barker boosted its record to 2-0 with a 4-1.5 victory over Akron.

In scoring straight set wins in singles matches for Medina Ben Howell defeated Adam Clause 6-1, 6-0; Kristian Snyder blanked William Johnson 6-0, 6-0 and Nate Pace downed Mitch Light 6-0, 6-1.

In the doubles matches for the Mustangs, Brian Bogan and Tristan Sanders defeated Elliott Spitzer and David Turrel 6-3, 6-0; Sam Busch and Chris Keller rallied past Melanie Mikits and Quinn Moreland 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 and Tom Horgan and Carson Zygoda downed Victoria Benner and Kelsey Eldridge 6-1, 6-2.

A sweep of the three doubles matches sparked Albion past Wilson. The Purple Eagles got straight set wins by Ben Kirby and Kyler McQuillan at first doubles, by Dan Beam and Monica Benjovsky at second doubles and by Madyson Coville and Cristal Quintana at third doubles.

The Purple Eagles also got a straight set victory by Josh Metzler at third singles.

Wilson got wins by Isaiah Barrett at first singles and Dominic Curcione at second singles.

Three set wins by Sean Benoit at first singles and by the first doubles team of Erik Herian and Zach Pisarski highlighted Barker’s victory.

The Raiders also got straight set wins by Tristan Payne at second singles and Brian Hefferon at third singles.
