Mustangs, Purple Eagles, Hawks all have home football games this weekend

Photo by Cheryl Wertman – Medina/Lyndonville quarterback Tyler Valley and his Mustang teammates will host Barker/Roy-Hart at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Vets Park. Albion will host East Aurora/Holland at 7 p.m. Friday and Holley will entertain Alexander at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Medina/Lyndonville will host neighboring Barker/Roy-Hart in a B East Division football game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Vets Park.

Albion will also be at home Friday evening as the Purple Eagles host B East Division foe East Aurora/Holland at 7 p.m.

The contests will celebrate Homecoming for both the Mustangs and Purple Eagles.

The key B East Division game of the week will have 2-0 Alden at 2-0 Depew at 7 p.m. Friday in the battle for first place.

Holley will likewise be home this weekend as the Hawks host Alexander at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in a Genesee Region League contest.

Medina/Lyndonville vs. Barker/Roy-Hart

Medina/Lyndonville, which downed Riverside of Buffalo 28-8 last week in an interdivisional game, is 0-1 in the B East Division and 2-1 overall.

Offensively the Mustangs have been led on the ground by the 1-2 combination of juniors Jake Cotter (473 yards rushing) and Eric Neace (257 yards). Both players have scored 4 touchdowns. At the helm, the Mustangs have gotten 2 touchdown passes each from quarterbacks Izaiah Rhim, a freshman, and Tyler Valley, a senior.

Barker/Roy-Hart, which is looking to rebound from back-to-back lopsided losses to B East frontrunners Depew (35-0) and Alden (54-7) is 0-3 overall.

Senior quarterback Andy Xapsos, who has rushed for 3 touchdowns and passed for 1, leads the Barker/Roy-Hart offense.

Medina/Lyndonville holds a 2-0 lead in the brief series since Barker and Roy-Hart became a merged team. The Mustangs won last year’s encounter 66-8.

Albion vs. East Aurora/Holland

Albion is likewise looking to bounce back from back-to-back losses to B East co-leaders Alden (20-7) and Depew (28-13) as the Purple Eagles were plagued by a costly rash of turnovers in both setbacks.

Quarterback Kyle Smith had passed for 3 touchdowns and running back Tommy Mattison has rushed for 3 TDs for the Purple Eagles who are 1-2 overall.

East Aurora/Holland, which dropped a narrow 7-2 interdivisional loss to Dunkirk (2-0) last week is 1-0 in the B East and 2-1 overall.

The Purple Eagles hold an 8-6-1 lead in the series with E. A. which began in 1937. The Blue Devils though won the last meeting 21-13 in 2008.

Holley vs. Alexander

It will be a matchup of two teams seeking that elusive first G-R League victory of the season when Holley (0-2, 0-3) hosts Alexander (0-2, 1-2).

Senior quarterback Nick Passarell, who hs thrown for 3 touchdown passes, leads the Holley offense.

Alexander’s lone win was a 47-14 non league victory over CG Finney which downed Holley 36-13 last Saturday.

Alexander holds a 9-3 lead in the series with Holley including a 28-0 victory last fall.
