Nine veterans anchor the lineup for the Medina High lacrosse squad which is preparing to compete in a expanded eight team Class D Division this season.

The Mustangs veteran contingent includes attackmen Cooper Fearby, Mitchell Silversmith, Zach Blount and Cayden Lilleby; midfielder Thomas Vasquez; defenders Bobby Geiger, Caleb Boyce and Colby Stephens and goalie Wesley Hughes. All are seniors except Silversmith and Blount who are juniors and Lilleby who is a freshman.

Vasquez had 24 goals last season, Silversmith 23, Blount 11 and 37 assists and Lilleby 11 and 11 assists.

“We’ve got a pretty solid attack line,” said Coach Todd Eick. “We are a little light on numbers so our conditioning and hardwork are going to be key. We’re going to have to out hustle our opponents.”

The Mustangs graduation losses include attackman Christian Silversmith (42 goals), midfielder Chaise Prest (23 goals) and defenders Blaire Prest, Dylan Weese and Tim Roy.

The enlarged D Division will see the Mustangs play home and home games against Tonawanda, Depew, Akron, Newfane, Wilson, Gowanda and Salamanca.

Medina, which went 4-4 in the league and 7-11 overall last year, will open the season at Tonawanda on March 24 and then host Newfane on the 26th.

The Mustangs will tune-up for the league campaign with scrimmages at Lockport on March 18 and at home against Iroquois on March 19.
