Mustangs post key N-O win over Tigers
Defending champion Medina knocked front-running Akron from the ranks of the unbeaten as the Mustangs blanked the host Tigers 10-0 in a key Niagara-Orleans League baseball game this afternoon.
Medina improves to 3-0 while Akron slips to 4-1. The Mustangs and Tigers will meet again at Medina on Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.
Breaking away from a scoreless deadlock, Medina scored three times in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Hadrian Batista and Aidan Papaj and an error. A single by Carter Woodworth and a sacrifice bunt by Cam Fike set up the opportunity.
The Mustangs then broke the contest wide open by erupting for 6 runs in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Papaj an RBI single by Carter Woodworth, a bases loaded walk to Batista and a two-run error.
Papaj and Carter Woodworth both had a pair of hits on the day.
Preston Woodworth picked up the win on the mound scattering 4 hits and striking out 11 in six innings of work. Brody Fry came on to hurl the final inning and struck out the side.
Defensively, the Mustangs came up with a key double play from Papaj at shortstop to Tyler Kroening at second to Fike at first to get out of trouble in the third inning.
